Analysing Folk Horror Opening Scenes - Conclusion
Now that I have looked at a number of opening scenes from the folk horror sub-genre I have a good idea of some of the conventions I want to include in my opening scene.
I will definitely include the following elements when creating the idea, scripting, planning and editing my opening scene:
- a ballad or Celtic song, that is old/ancient in tone
- an isolated setting that seems far from civilisation
- a montage featuring a journey from normality to a rural/isolated setting - setting up the idea of the 'fish-out-of-water' narrative
- reference to Paganism or rituals
- images of nature and the use of iconography associated with the sub-genre
