Analysing Folk Horror Opening Scenes - Introduction

I have completed lots of analysis of opening scenes of films from the horror genre, but now that I have decided to narrow my focus to the folk horror sub-genre, I thought it would be sensible to look at the opening scenes of three films from the sub-genre to see if the conventions are significantly different from those I found in horror films.

I expect that there will be more of a focus on the protagonist's journey to an unusual location and hints, through iconography and mise-en-scene, to the notion of rituals and ancient symbolism. 

The opening scenes I have chosen to look at are from the following films:

'Midsommar'

'The Wicker Man'

'The Blood on Satan's Claw'
