Choosing an Appropriate Font For My Title Cards for 'Equinox'
I want my chosen font to instantly connote genre so I am going to do some research into typical fonts for the folk horror genre by looking at posters, trailers and opening sequences from films from the genre, using Google to try and find out the names of any of the fonts that I might like to use. I am also going to look at fonts on the following dedicated font websites, DaFont and FontMeme.
The major issue with DaFont is that the font categories are not really film genre related. There are sections for horror, alongside other sections titled 'eroded' and 'destroyed' where some of the fonts may be appropriate, but searching for possible fonts here is very time consuming and many of the fonts (even in the 'horror' section) have a cartoon-ish feel to them, which isn't the aesthetic I am after considering the themes and narrative of my film.
There are also lots of benefits of using FontMeme to research fonts, particularly the fact that there is a movie font section which is split into different genres.
Here, you can see posters for films from your chosen genre, with details of the names of fonts used. The fonts aren't free and you cannot see the title of your film in the font, but each of the fonts is accessible for a free download after a quick search on Google.
