Rough Storyline for My Film

Having researched the horror genre and, more specifically, the folk horror sub-genre, I want to make sure that I include some of the conventions of genre I have found into my narrative. Even though I am only creating the opening sequence I think it is important for me to have a rough idea of what would happen across the narrative and by creating a synopsis it will help me think about how I can foreshadow future events in my opening scene.

My storyline revolves around a photographer who lives in London being asked to complete a shoot for a story by his editor in a rural, isolated location.

On his way to the shoot his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and unable to get any reception on his phone, he walks to a large secluded manor house.

There, he meets an unusual woman who offers him 'refreshments' and a place to stay for the night, telling him of the celebration of the Equinox which is due to take place that evening.

The man agrees to stay whilst he figures out how to fix his car. Whilst at the house he watches strange occurrences and rituals take place as the women and other people at the house prepare for the celebration.

He tries to leave but is drugged and when he comes too he realises that he is to be the ultimate sacrifice in the celebrations.

The opening scene will show the photographer driving to the locations, breaking down and meeting the woman at the manor house for the first time.
