Analysing Horror Genre Opening Sequences - Introduction

I am going to look at a number of horror opening sequences to understand how they establish genre conventions and what meaning this creates for the audience. 

I have a solid understanding of the ways that the horror genre can be established through cinematography (including lighting), mise-en-scene, editing and sound, but through my research I would like to explore this further so that I can use these elements in my film to give the audience a clear indication of genre. 

The opening sequence I am going to be looking at are from the following horror films:

'The Witch'

'Hereditary'

'Carrie'
