Analysing Opening Sequences and Setting - Introduction

During my analysis of a number of opening sequences I also found that frequently the purpose is to introduce important settings.

This purpose, of establishing setting, is possibly not as common in opening scenes as introducing important characters to the audience, but it still happens quite frequently. Therefore, I have decided to look in more detail at two opening sequences (from films from different genres) that focus on introducing setting to the audience. I will discuss how these settings are presented and what meaning this presentation creates for the audience. 

The two opening sequences I have decided to look at are from the films 'The Shining' and 'La La Land'.
