Analysing Opening Scenes 4 - 'Top Gun'

The next opening sequence I am analysing is from the action movie 'Top Gun' directed by Tony Scott and starring Tom Cruise.

The clip contains the following typical conventions of opening scenes:

• Production company logos/idents (Paramount, Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer Productions)
• Title cards/titles including 'A Tony Scott Film', followed by actor credits and the name of the film, alongside crew names
• Indication of genre with typed titles establishing the background information about the navy fighter weapons school (exposition)
• Introduces setting which further establishes the genre (showing the landscape and the planes)
